How to read a Bali neighbourhood before choosing a home
A home is also a road, a morning sound and a ten-minute errand. Here is how to look at the place around it.

A listing tells you about a house. It rarely tells you about the road that leads to it at five in the afternoon, or how the lane sounds at seven in the morning.
Visit at more than one hour
Traffic, ceremony processions and construction all follow their own rhythm. Go once in the morning and once in the early evening, and walk the last few hundred metres instead of driving them.
Follow your everyday errands
Think about where you would buy groceries, see a doctor or drop a child at school. A neighbourhood that looks remote on a map may be convenient for your routine, and the reverse is just as common.
Notice what is changing
Look at the empty plots nearby and ask what they are zoned for. A field view is a lovely thing to have, but it is not a thing you own.
